New Delhi. Perhaps this T20 World Cup could be the last ICC tournament for Indian cricket team’s star captain Rohit Sharma. In such a situation, in the team selected for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in America and West Indies, he would like to see those players who have the ability to win the trophy for India at any cost. India’s 15-member team is likely to be selected in the last week of April. The last date for handing over the team to the International Cricket Council (ICC) is May 1.
A source of the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) gave this information on Saturday. Every team participating in the tournament will get a chance to change players in its starting team till May 25. A senior BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity, “The Indian team will be selected during the last week of April and by this time the first part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be over. The National Selection Committee will be in a position to assess the form and fitness of the contenders.
The source said, “The first batch of cricketers will leave for New York soon after the league stage of the IPL ends on May 19. Players whose teams do not qualify for the final four will also go early as happened during the WTC Finals last year.
The T20 World Cup tournament is being held in America and West Indies, so it is expected that some ‘stand by’ players will also travel with the team. In case of any player of the main team getting injured or withdrawing due to any unexpected circumstances, there should not be any ‘logistical’ problem. The four national selectors will travel to watch most of the matches. It is learned that no instructions have been given to any contender for the World Cup regarding workload management as they will play under the franchise in these two months.
