Ahmedabad. Former champion Gujarat Titans started the new season of the Indian Premier League with new captain Shubman Gill. The team’s start in IPL 2024 may have been full of ups and downs, but its mentor Gary Kirsten has faith in the captain. Defending Shubman Gill, he has said that he will learn to take strategic decisions in this fast-paced T20 format.
IPL 2022 champions and current runners-up Titans are in seventh place after one win and one loss in two matches. “It’s a fast-paced game,” Kirsten said. Technical decisions have to be taken on a regular basis. This is not Test cricket which lasts long. I am very impressed with him as a captain.
Gujarat team had won against Mumbai Indians in the first match. In the second match, it faced a crushing defeat against Chennai Super Kings. The team had a big defeat of 63 runs. Gary further said, “He has assimilated the captaincy well and has shown the traits of a good captain.” He is smart and young too. He has a lot to learn, especially in T20 cricket.
The former South African cricketer said that the Titans will not repeat the mistakes that they made against Chennai Super Kings. He said, “We lost a match by a big margin, which will have to be compensated.” If teams have equal points then the matter goes to net run rate. We have to take care of this. We need a good win here.
