Dog bite cases are on the rise in the country

Dog attacks are increasing continuously in the country. Many people have lost their lives due to dog attacks. The government told the Parliament on Tuesday that about 30.5 lakh cases of dog bites were reported during the last year 2023. 286 people have lost their lives due to dog bites.

Lallan Singh gave information in the house

This information has been given to the Parliament by Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lallan Singh in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. The minister told the House that according to the data received in the Integrated Disease Surveillance Program (IDSP) implemented by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a total of 30,43,339 cases of dog bites have been reported during 2023. During this period, 286 people died due to dog bites.

National Rabies Control Program is being run

According to the report received from the National Center for Disease Control, the number of anti-rabies vaccines administered during the year 2023 was 46,54,398. The Ministry of Health has been implementing the National Rabies Control Program in all the states and union territories except Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep for the prevention and control of rabies in the country since the 12th Five Year Plan.

The government is also focusing on controlling the dog population

Lallan Singh said, ‘Apart from this, dog population management is one of the important tasks to control dog bite cases. In this regard, many local bodies are implementing animal birth control programs and anti-rabies vaccination. For this, the Central Government has prepared the Animal Birth Control Rules, 2023.’

Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he said, “The central government is also providing funds under state assistance for animal disease control. The state government can also use the funds for rabies vaccination.”
