New Delhi. Devdutt Padikkal got a chance to make his Test debut in place of Rajat Patidar. This left-handed batsman tried to capitalize on this opportunity. By scoring a explosive half-century in the first innings, Padikkal showed that he is the superstar of the future. However, before joining the Test team, this left-handed batsman had to face health related problems for the last two years. Because of this he was not able to give his best performance. Padikkal, who scored 65 runs in the first innings of the fifth Test against England, said that these adverse circumstances increased his love for the game and he was successful in making his Test debut.
Devdutt Padikkal made his international debut in 2021 in a T20 match against Sri Lanka but due to being infected with Covid-19 and stomach related illness, his career graph could not progress further. After overcoming these challenges, Padikkal started scoring runs in domestic cricket, the result of which was that he got a place in the Indian Test team. In the fifth and final Test match against England on Friday in Dharamsala, he played an excellent inning of 65 runs which included 10 fours and one six.

‘I tried to stay disciplined’
After the end of the second day’s play, Devdutt Padikkal said, ‘I have always believed that discipline is very important for success in whatever work you do. Be it exercise or daily life habits or food. I tried to stay disciplined and that was my main goal. I couldn’t do much during the illness but still I wanted not to lag behind in other areas. I continued working on myself, whether it was mental or small things.
‘Technically I made some changes’
When Devdutt Padikkal returned after regaining full fitness, his game had improved. Apart from this, he also made some technical changes in his game. According to Devdutt Padikkal, ‘Technically I made some changes but mentally I also made changes. I tried to make sure that I enjoyed the game to the fullest. I haven’t played much cricket in the last two years and then I realized how deeply I love this game and how much I am missing it.
‘I was very nervous before my debut’
Due to injury, Rajat Patidar did not get a chance to play in the Dharamshala test match. However, the performance of Rajat, who made his Test debut in Rajkot in the second Test, was not as expected. He failed to play big innings. Devdutt Padikkal said about his debut, ‘I got a message last night that I can play. I was nervous. It was a tough night but at the same time you enjoy it. You keep waiting for this day. I enjoyed every four but I enjoyed the first four a lot because it was my first run in Test cricket. Devdutt Padikkal along with Sarfaraz Khan made a partnership of 97 runs for the fourth wicket.
