The country’s largest automaker Maruti Suzuki launched the new generation model of Celerio last year. Since then, the news of the launch of its CNG version is coming. Currently, according to media reports, Maruti Suzuki will launch the CNG model of Celerio by the end of this month. The Celerio will now come with factory fitted CNG and such vehicles of the company fall under the S-CNG family.
Regarding the mileage of Maruti Celerio, it is believed that the Celerio will be able to give 30 kmph mileage on CNG. Notably, the previous generation Celerio claimed a mileage of 30.47 km/kg. There is no doubt that the Celerio is already the highest mileage car in India as it has a mileage of 26.68 kmpl on petrol. Obviously, these mileage figures will be on top of the CNG model as well.
Price will be around Rs 60,000 more
Currently, the Maruti Celerio is equipped with the K10C engine, and it produces a maximum power of 68 bhp and peak torque of 89 Nm. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. However, it is expected that the CNG version will not be offered with a 5-speed AMT.
The current Celerio prices start from ₹ 4.99 lakhs ex-showroom, so obviously the CNG variant will be costlier. Experts believe that the price of Celerio CNG will be around Rs 60,000 more than the current model. Maruti Suzuki Celerio competes with Tata Tiago, Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid and Datsun Go. At the same time, the Celerio CNG will compete with the Tata Tiago CNG and the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG.
CV Raman, Chief Technology Officer, Maruti Suzuki has already said that the new K10C engine can be easily modified to run on CNG. Hence, we are expecting the Celerio CNG to come with the same engine. This engine comes with two injectors per cylinder instead of one injector, which helps in keeping the engine cool and gives better control over refueling.
