The debate was going on in SC, then Justice Bhatti said, I am in a vegetarian hotel in Kerala...

New Delhi. Advocating cleanliness in restaurants, Supreme Court Justice SVN Bhatti on Monday said that during his posting in Kerala, he often visited a vegetarian restaurant run by a Muslim as it followed international standards.

Justice Bhatti shared this experience when he, along with Justice Hrishikesh Roy, on Monday put an interim stay on the directive of the Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments to display the names of the owners of eateries located on the Kanwar Yatra route. The bench also said that in other words, food vendors can be asked to display what food items they have such as whether they have vegetarian food available or non-vegetarian.

Justice Bhatti said, “I have my own experience and knowledge when I was in Kerala. I cannot tell openly because I am a sitting judge of this court. Without naming the city, there was a vegetarian hotel run by a Hindu. There was another vegetarian hotel run by a Muslim.”

He said, “While being a judge of that state, I used to go to the hotel run by that Muslim man for vegetarian food. He used to display everything as far as food standards and safety are concerned. He had returned from Dubai. He was following international standards regarding safety, hygiene and cleanliness, so I used to prefer going to that hotel.”

It is noteworthy that the Supreme Court on Monday put an interim stay on the instructions issued by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand governments, in which eateries located on the Kanwar Yatra routes have been asked to display the names and other details of their owners, employees.
