The Central Government has invited bids for power generation from 8000 MW thermal power plants to meet the ever-increasing energy demand in the country. Union Energy Minister RK Singh gave this information. Talking to news agency PTI, he said that 8000 MW of thermal power exists in the country without any power purchase agreement.
Energy crisis in the country will be overcome: The Energy Minister said that the government is working on a plan to overcome the energy crisis. In this sequence, the states have been asked to send their power requirement, after which the bids will be invited from the states. He further said that we will collect the demand of all the states and then call for the bids later, PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) will be signed with whoever makes the lowest bid.
Energy Minister Singh said that some thermal power plants in the country are under the National Company Law Tribunal. I have had a meeting with banks regarding this. Many steps are being taken by the government so that these power plants can be made operational at the earliest. There are 17,500 MW thermal power plants in the country which run on imported coal, of which about 2500 MW is in NCLT.
India witnessed a massive energy crisis in the early summer of this year. According to the report, in the beginning of April, there was a shortage of 2 billion units of electricity in the country. At the same time, in the last week of April, respect was at the highest level, then in Jharkhand 16 percent of the total electricity demand, in Rajasthan 13.3 percent, in Haryana 12.3 percent, in Bihar 7 percent and in Punjab 6.9 percent less electricity was supplied. .
At the same time, while talking on coal production, the country’s Coal Minister Pehla Joshi had said a few days ago that the demand for coal in the next 18 years would reach about 150 million tonnes to meet the energy demand in the country. At present, India’s annual coal demand is around 100 million tonnes.
