But if you are going to vote, you need to take some precautions because in this scorching heat, there is a great risk of dehydration. After heat stroke, fainting occurs which can also cause stroke. In the last phase of voting, a woman fell unconscious due to scorching heat at a polling booth in Bengaluru. She became a victim of heat stroke. The good thing was that a doctor was present there who gave her a new life by giving CPR. What to do when voting
- Keep drinking water-Dr. Pawan Kumar Goyal It is said that casting your vote is your ultimate duty. You must vote but before going to the polling booth, drink plenty of water and keep water with you and keep drinking water at regular intervals.
- Avoid the sun- Do not stand in the sun for too long at the polling booths. Try to stay under the shade of a tree or go to a place where the sun is not shining and wait for your turn. If there is a huge crowd, then come to vote later.
- Use an umbrella-If the sun is very hot, you can use an umbrella. Carry an umbrella to the polling booth. The umbrella will also give you a lot of relief from the heat.
- Wear loose clothes-When you go out in this scorching heat, wear loose clothes. Try to wear cotton clothes.
- Wear sunglasses-If you are going to vote and you feel that you will have to wait for a long time, then definitely wear sunglasses or goggles. Wearing a hat on the head will also protect you from the harsh sun.
- Keep ORS with you- Dr. Pawan Kumar Goyal says that before going for voting, keep ORS solution with you. If you feel uneasy or nauseous, drink ORS as soon as you feel it. If you do not have ORS, then mix sugar and salt in water and drink it.
- Liquids- On the day of voting, consume liquids like curd lassi, fruit juice, buttermilk, lentil water, watermelon, cucumber. Do this before voting. You can also consume fruit juice at the polling booth.
what not to do
- Do not go after drinking alcohol- Alcohol absorbs water from the body. Therefore, if you are going to vote in the scorching sun, do not consume alcohol, otherwise the risk of heat stroke will increase.
- Cold drinks and coffee- Do not drink coffee or carbonated drinks at the polling booth as these will also dehydrate the body. Cold drinks will not cool the body, it will definitely make you feel cold but will increase the risk of dehydration.
- Do not do strenuous work- If there is strong sunlight at the polling booth, do not do strenuous work. This will reduce the water in the body and the risk of dehydration will increase.
These people are more at risk
Dr. Pawan Kumar Goyal said that people who have diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease, Parkinson’s disease or any other serious disease are at the highest risk of heatwave. These people should try their best to avoid sunlight. If people above 60 years of age are going to the polling booth, they should stay in a shade and not in the sun. People with serious diseases should definitely take a family member with them. If there is any feeling of fainting, immediately take them to a cool place and consult a doctor immediately.
