A 28-year-old woman has been arrested for cheating her of Rs 60 lakh from a friendship club in Pune, Maharashtra. According to the police, the accused, arrested on Friday, had advertised Friendship Club in a newspaper. In which men were promised to date high profile women. When the victim approached the accused woman, she was told that she would have to deposit a surety of Rs 2 lakh, after which she was asked several times to pay the amount, which later went up to Rs 60 lakh, the police officer said. With the help of technology and bank account, the police have identified the accused as a resident of Vanwadi. A case has been registered in this regard and the police is now probing whether the accused have cheated others in this manner, the official said.
The complainant told the police that the newspaper had given some phone numbers in the advertisements of Friendship Club. On calling this number, bank account numbers were given in which Rs 2 lakh was recovered in the name of security money and then different charges. When the complainant suspected that he was wrong, he took the help of the police.
According to reports, the woman used to work as a telephone caller. Now the police is further investigating whether only this woman is behind this work or some other mastermind. Investigation has revealed that this is a complete gang. Now the police is preparing to arrest the mastermind of this gang.
