Because of which the meaning became meaningless. For example, instead of country spirit, the soul of the country and instead of executed for 100 rupees, there is mention of hanging for 100 rupees.
Bangla translation messed up
In fact, the State Beverages Corporation of the State Excise Department, the main distributor in the state, has entered into an agreement with the liquor traders. On the instructions of Webak, the agreement letter was signed with the traders on stamp paper. However, there was a glitch in the English to Bengali translation of the agreement. The agreement reads, “Agreement with the Retailer of Country Spirit and Foreign Liquor”. In its translation it has been written that agreement with the retailers of alcoholic liquor and the soul of the country.
liquor merchants upset
Seeing the agreement letter, the liquor merchants got upset. In this regard, Gautam Mukherjee, general secretary of Country Spirit and On Shop and Hotel Association, said that he was surprised to see the Bengali translation. There are many mistakes in translation. This is an insult to the Bengali language.
translation had to be done by someone knowledgeable
He said that country spirit could be written instead of country spirit. The Excise Department has not said anything in this regard. However, an administrative official said, it is probably the result of translation done using software. This should have been confirmed by a language expert after translation.
