Thiruvananthapuram: A scene of devastation was seen after the landslide in Wayanad district on Tuesday morning. So far 60 people have died due to the landslide. Relief and rescue work is still going on. Despite this, there is still no relief from the rain here. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘red alert’ of extremely heavy rain on Tuesday for Wayanad district of Kerala and neighboring Malappuram, Kozhikode and Kannur districts, which have been hit by landslides due to torrential rains.

‘Red alert’ for four districts

IMD has issued a ‘red alert’ for four districts including Wayanad. Apart from this, ‘orange alert’ has been issued for all other districts of the state except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam on Tuesday. Let us tell you that ‘red alert’ indicates the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain of more than 20 cm in 24 hours. At the same time, ‘orange alert’ means very heavy rain of 11 cm to 20 cm. At the same time, ‘yellow alert’ means very heavy rain between six cm to 11 cm. ‘Orange alert’ has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday.

Alert issued for Wednesday as well

The weather department has also issued an ‘orange alert’ for Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur districts for Wednesday. Amid heavy rains, several teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), two helicopters and other rescue teams are rushing to Mundakkai, which has been completely cut off from other parts after a devastating landslide in Wayanad district, the state government said on Tuesday. At least 60 people have been reported dead so far due to the landslide in Wayanad early Tuesday morning. (input language)
