Air travelers will get more convenience at Guwahati International Airport from next year. The new terminal of Guwahati International Airport or Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport operated by Adani Group in Guwahati will be ready by April 2025. A senior official gave this information on Thursday. According to the news of Bhasha, Chief Airport Officer (CAO) Utpal Barua said that the terminal being built at a total cost of more than Rs 2,000 crore was earlier targeted to be completed in December 2024, but due to changes in the ‘design’, it got delayed by about four months.
There was a slight delay due to design changes
Barua said that our new terminal will be ready by April 2025. There has been a slight delay due to changes made in the design to include more facilities in the building. We want to make it the most efficient terminal in the country. The Union Cabinet in August 2020 approved the lease of Guwahati International Airport to Adani Enterprises for operation, management and development for 50 years. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) was developing the new terminal before the management was transferred to the Gujarat-based entity in October 2021.
Will have the capacity to handle 1.31 crore passengers per year
Barua said the new terminal will be able to handle 1.31 crore passengers per year, while the existing terminal can handle only 34 lakh passengers. When asked about the investment in the development of the infrastructure, Barua said more than Rs 2,000 crore is being spent on the entire facility. Of this, around Rs 1,600 crore is being invested in the terminal building, while the remaining amount will be used to build a new taxiway and extend the runway.
