The number of teams will increase in T20 World Cup 2030
ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: The Women’s T20 World Cup is to be played at the end of this year i.e. 2024. Ten teams are participating in it. This year’s World Cup is to be held in Bangladesh. This will be the last T20 World Cup in which 10 teams are participating. After this, the number of teams will increase. Even in the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030, the number of teams will reach 16. This has been confirmed in the ICC meeting.
12 teams will play Women’s T20 World Cup in 2026 and 2028
After this year’s T20 World Cup, 12 teams will be seen participating in the year 2026, 12 in the year 2028 and then 16 in the year 2030. The International Cricket Council i.e. ICC has confirmed the inclusion of 16 teams in the Women’s T20 World Cup in 2030. For the first time in 2026, 12 teams will participate in the tournament, which is to be played in England. Apart from this, the ICC has made it clear that the cut-off date for the T20 World Cup 2026 will be 31 October 2024. The Chief Executive Committee (CEC) has also confirmed how there will be eight qualifying spots for this mega event to be held two years later. Under this, two teams each from Africa and Europe, one from America and three teams will be formed from the combined Asia and EAP regional final tournament.
Many important decisions were taken in the meeting held in Colombo
The CEC has also approved the appointment of Paul Reiffel as Elite Panel Umpire in the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee. Meanwhile Richie Richardson will be Elite Panel Referee in the committee. Several other decisions were taken at the ICC Annual Conference held in Colombo from July 19. It was attended by all 108 ICC members and its main objective was to take advantage of the Olympic opportunity before cricket is included in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Also, USA Cricket and Cricket Chile have been given a 12-month notice for non-compliance with ICC membership criteria.
T20 World Cup will be played in Bangladesh in October this year
Talking about the Women’s T20 World Cup, a total of 10 teams will take part in the upcoming edition which will be played from October 3 to 20. Bangladesh will host the tournament which will see 23 T20 matches played in Dhaka and Sylhet. The 10 teams have been divided into two groups of five each. India, Australia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand have been placed in Group A while West Indies, Bangladesh, South Africa, England and Scotland have been placed in Group B.
