New Delhi: The IT department has made a big disclosure before the Delhi High Court. The IT Department told the Delhi High Court that the Income Tax raid on Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL Group) in 2019 revealed documents of huge amount of cash being given to Congress by the company and its subsidiary. These alleged payments made on “Akbar Road” were listed in the 45-page High Court judgment on Friday in this case.
Let us tell you that MEIL has emerged as the biggest donor to BJP through electoral bonds, due to which the opposition is facing criticism. But the matter may worsen due to the latest revelations of the Income Tax Department. The High Court order states, ‘The documents recovered from MEIL Group appear to indicate unaccounted transfers to the political party (Congress) during the assessment year 2017-18 to 2020-21.’ According to the IT department, these transfers are part of Rs 520 crore which the court has reportedly said remains unassessed.

Another company had given cash to Congress
In 2019, the Income Tax Department raided another company in which evidence of Congress’s cash transactions was found, the Kakkar-Miglani Group. The High Court said that ‘the petitioner (Congress) has miserably failed to establish that the material which forms the basis for the record of satisfaction (by the IT Department) is any data relating to the years 2014-15, 2015-16 and , is not based on physical evidence or documents.’
