The battle cry for Lok Sabha elections has been heard. To get power in a democracy, the most important thing is the support of the people, all the parties are in the fray on the basis of allegations and various election promises. BJP has to be defeated at any cost, various tactics are being adopted for this, but the opposition has nothing through which it can corner the BJP. All the opposition parties including Congress, Trinamool, SP, RJD, Left parties are claiming to be together in the name of defeating Modi, but they do not seem to have any ideology. Being devoid of ideology and thoughts, they have nothing to tell, convince and influence the voters in the elections. As far as the unity of the opposition is concerned, the same unity is not visible anywhere in the opposition. An example of this can be taken from Mamata Banerjee, she is contesting elections in West Bengal separately from the Congress, so to speak, she is a part of the Indi alliance.
On March 31, a mega rally of Indi alliance was held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. The political unity of the opposition parties was revealed on the same day when in a rally organized in the name of saving democracy, Arvind Kejriwal’s picture was shown behind the stairs in the middle of the stage. Seeing this, the leaders of the opposition parties, especially the Congress, were shocked. After the protest, this picture was hastily removed. In fact, every political party wants to prove the superiority of itself and its leader.
Aam Aadmi Party is calling Modi a dictator, because many of its leaders including Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal are in jail in the Delhi Excise Scam and the sword of arrest is hanging on many others. In the last 10 years in politics, in his journey from being an agitator to becoming the Chief Minister, Kejriwal made the mistake of considering politics as a movement. Probably he was believing that as soon as he is arrested, the people of the country’s capital Delhi will come out on the streets, the media of the country and abroad will cover him just like it did during the Anna movement. After this, even when he became the Chief Minister of Delhi, he got tremendous coverage. But nothing like this happened. In fact, for the last 10 years, the people of Delhi have been watching and understanding his politics. When he became the Chief Minister in 2013, a large number of youth were associated with him, these were the youth who were either casting their first or second vote. The youth saw the future of the country in Arvind Kejriwal. His emotional appeal also had an impact, but in ten years, the general public of Delhi including the youth of Delhi have seen and understood his allegations and the politics of allegations only.
Congress and all other opposition political parties like SP, Trinamool Congress, RJD and the Left have nothing new to say. All these political parties are trying to corner Prime Minister Narendra Modi with old and worn out slogans. By calling BJP an anti-Muslim party, by talking about saving democracy in the country, by saying that if Modi government is formed once again, democracy will not survive in the country, dictatorship will come etc. Unsuccessful attempts are being made to corner the BJP by saying all such clichés. At the same time, this time BJP, which is sticking to the ideology of Jan Sangh by giving the slogan of crossing 400, is going among the voters and asking for votes by counting its works.
If we look from 2014 till now, India has become the 5th largest economy in the world due to the schemes like Self-reliant India, Make in India and Start Up India and policy measures like rejuvenation of infrastructure etc. It is estimated that India, which was ranked 11th in 2014, can become the third largest economy in the world by 2027. Political analysts believe that BJP is in the electoral fray with the face of PM Modi with its commitment, work done in the last ten years and issues like development, while the opposition is contesting the elections without anyone’s face and without strong issues. The boat is trying to sail across, which does not seem possible at the moment.
