The mysterious death of a young man in Bhajanpura area of Delhi confused the police. It was first considered a normal road accident, but the postmortem report changed the entire picture. The blind murder was solved through the intensive police and a small clue – “Blinking Green Light”. In this case, the police have arrested four accused, including a minor. The murder was done in a dispute over a rent of just 50 rupees.
Start of developments
The case is on the night of 9 April, when a young man was found lying in a blood -soaked condition on Pillar No. 66 Futa Road in Yamuna Vihar. Around 3 o’clock in the morning, a collar informed the police that a young man had an accident and he was badly injured. Head constable Dinesh and other policemen patrolling the area rushed to the spot immediately and the injured youth was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Initially case of accident was registered
The police did not see any suspicious activity in the initial investigation of the scene. The young man got a mobile phone, but could not be identified immediately. Later, he was identified as 25-year-old Rashid, who was an e-rickshaw driver by profession. On the basis of preliminary investigation, the police registered a case considering it a case of accident.
Postmortem overturned picture
When the postmortem of the body was done, the theory of the accident overturned. The report of doctors revealed that Rashid had a wound of about 8 cm deep near the heart, which was killed with a pointed weapon. He died due to heart puncture. Along with this, the police got neither e-rickshaw nor Rashid’s purse from the spot. It became clear that it was not an accident, but a murder with the intention of looting.
‘Blinking green light’ turned clue
Under the supervision of ACP Vivek Tyagi, SHO Narendra Sharma and his team started investigating the scene again. There were no CCTV cameras on the crime scene, but Rashid’s e-rickshaw owner gave an important information-a green light blinks behind his rickshaw. Based on this clue, the police team searched CCTV footage from Durga Puri Chowk to Gokulpuri flyover and the same rickshaw was seen in a video.
Accused arrested, controversy over 50 rupees
With the help of CCTV, the direction of investigation reached Nehru Vihar in Mustafabad. On April 19, the police arrested Naeem, Muzaffar and Taib, including a minor. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had gone for a walk at night and hired Rashid’s e-rickshaw from Maujpur. The fixed fare was Rs 150, but the accused were adamant on giving just Rs 50. This was a debate and the minor killed Rashid with a knife.
Evidence recovered, case resolved
On the behest of the accused, the police have recovered e-rickshaws, the purse of the deceased and the knife used in the murder. The police is now taking further action in the case and the minor will be produced in Juvenile Court.
This case once again proves that big scripts can be solved through police understanding, technical assistance and small information.
