The biggest example of how corruption happens due to influence in the system is the Pune Porsche car accident case, where the minor son of a rich father, in a drunken state, crushed two engineers with his Porsche car, killing them. He was arrested but was granted bail on very easy terms. Meanwhile, every possible effort was made to save the minor son of the rich father. His blood samples were changed in connivance with the doctors, and someone else was made the driver in place of the minor. The case escalated and when the layers were revealed, it was found that if you have influence, you can run the system according to your wishes, provided the case does not get blown out of proportion. The Porsche accident case in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune may have come into the limelight due to media headlines, but the way efforts were made to save the accused of this case and the way the collusion of doctors, police in the system was exposed is a slap on the face of the entire system.
Obviously, there must have been more such incidents, the question arises here that would the victims have been getting justice due to such a system? The minor who crushed two engineers to death in an inebriated condition is currently in a juvenile home, his bail has been cancelled after the case made headlines. Now the challenge before the police is to present such evidence so that the Juvenile Board gives permission to prosecute the minor as an adult. There will be cross-examination for this too, there will be big lawyers to plead on behalf of the minor, everything will depend on the Juvenile Board whether it gives permission to prosecute him as an adult or not. If permission is granted, then only the case will be tried against the accused as an adult. This too is a long process.
If we look at this whole case carefully, the flaws of the whole system are exposed. First of all, a minor drives a car on the road, he does not have a license, yet his father allows him to drive the car on the road. He goes to a bar with his friends. Legally, alcohol cannot be served to people under 25 years of age in a bar, but he is served alcohol. Many people including the bar manager are guilty for this. Obviously, other minors must have been coming to the bar, they must also have been served alcohol. In such a situation, the bar should be sealed and strict legal action should be taken against all the people including its manager.
After the drunk driver crushed two software engineers, two policemen from Yerawada police station were the first to reach the spot but due to the influence of the minor’s family, they neither informed the senior officers nor informed the control room. After the incident, Vadgaon Sheri MLA Sunil Tingre also reached the police station early in the morning. He was also accused of putting pressure to save the minor, although later the matter was settled. The medical report that came initially did not confirm that the minor was driving the car after drinking alcohol.
Later, when the CCTV footage of the bar was examined, it was found that the minor had consumed alcohol with his friends. The government doctors together had changed the samples of his blood sample. The minor’s father had pressurized the doctors by luring them. The second report confirmed that the minor was drunk. Both the doctors of the government hospital have been arrested on the charge of changing the blood sample. Along with taking legal action against both the doctors who have defamed the profession of medicine and supported the criminal, their license to practice medicine should also be taken away.
The minor’s father Vishal Agarwal and grandfather Surendra Agarwal pressurized the driver Gangadhar to go to the police and give a statement that he was driving the car at the time of the incident and the driver gave the same statement to the police on May 23. Later, when the investigation was done, it was found that Surendra Agarwal and Vishal Agarwal had threatened the driver Gangadhar. He was imprisoned in his house and threatened to take the blame of the accident on himself. After confirming the facts, a case has been registered against Vishal and his father Surendra under section 365 (kidnapping) and 368 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC. The police said that the driver was scared so he gave such statements.
When the flaws of this case are exposed, we find that the entire system is completely rotten. Anything can be done with the power of money and influence. Anyone can be bought. In such a situation, if action is not taken soon in this case, it will be a slap on the entire system. Strict action should be taken against all the culprits in this case, including the minor, to set an example in front of the society so that in future no one can even think of trying to break or twist the law.
