Imphal: Assam Rifles and Manipur Police on Thursday seized heroin worth Rs 3.5 crore hidden inside a pumpkin, which is suspected to be smuggled from neighboring Myanmar. Acting on a tip-off, security forces intercepted a pickup truck going from Tipaimukh in Phirzawal district towards Cachar in southern Assam at Jiribam and arrested two drug smugglers – Abdul Mannan Majumdar and Khalil Ullah Barbhuiya, police said. .
Upon inspection, security personnel found 363.45 grams of heroin in 30 soap boxes, which were hidden in pumpkins loaded in a pickup truck along with other vegetables. The detained people and the seized drugs have been handed over to Jiribam police station for further legal action.

Upon inspection, the joint team found 363.45 grams of brown sugar hidden inside the pumpkin. The arrested persons and seized drugs have been sent to Jiribam Police Station for further investigation and legal action. Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in a post on X, congratulated the security forces for their excellent work in combating the drug trafficking trade.
In another post, Singh spoke about the “war on drugs” campaign launched by the BJP government in Manipur. He said, “We have recovered heroin drugs, opium, pills etc. worth more than Rs 60,000 crore, destroyed more than 20,000 hectares of opium plantations… only to save our Indian youth. we will continue.”
