Ugandan team captain resigns from his post
In the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, some new teams took part for the first time in the history of the tournament, which also included a team from Uganda. In the group stage, Uganda got a place in Group C, which included the joint host country West Indies, Afghanistan, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea. The Ugandan team played 4 matches and won only one and due to this they could not qualify for the Super 8. At the same time, 32-year-old leg-spin player Brian Masaba, who was captaining the team in this tournament, has announced to leave his post.
I am proud to captain my country
Brian Masaba, while informing about his decision to step down from captaincy in a video posted on social media by the Uganda Cricket Association, said that this was a decision that I had been thinking about for a long time. This is the proudest moment of my life in which I not only got the opportunity to captain my country in the World Cup, but I have been carrying out this responsibility for the last 5 years. Due to this responsibility, I have also learned a lot as a leader, which is going to be very important in my future life as well.
Uganda’s team could not impress much with its performance
If we talk about the performance of the Ugandan team in the T20 World Cup 2024, it was not very impressive, in which they had to face a huge defeat of 125 runs against Afghanistan, while they lost the match by 134 runs against West Indies and by 9 wickets against New Zealand. Against Papua New Guinea, the Ugandan team was able to win the match by 3 wickets, which is also their first win in the T20 World Cup. On the other hand, if we talk about Brian Masaba’s career, he has so far taken 23 wickets in 61 T20 matches at an average of 16.57.
