The Sri Lankan team has now left for England to win the 3-match ODI series at home against India by 2-0. Earlier, the Sri Lankan team had expressed security concerns about the uproar in England, but now the team has left for there today to play a three-match Test series. A total of three matches will be played in this Test series, part of the World Test Championship 2023-25, in which the first match is to be played between the two teams on the Manchester ground from August 21. Meanwhile, England’s legendary former player Ian Bell may enter the support staff of the Sri Lankan team.
Sanath Jayasuriya requested to include Bell in the support staff
Ian Bell has a great record in both Test and ODI, in which he has played 118 Test matches and 161 ODI matches for the England team. His inclusion in the support staff will help Sri Lankan batsmen to perform better according to the conditions there. According to Sri Lankan website Newswire, the team’s interim coach Sanath Jayasuriya has requested to include Ian Bell in the support staff. So far in the third edition of the World Test Championship, the situation of both the teams has not been very good, so this series is going to be very important for both Sri Lanka and England.
Now losing even one match could prove costly for England
In the third edition of the World Test Championship, England’s team is currently at the sixth position with a percentage of 36.54 points, while Sri Lanka’s team is at the fourth position with a percentage of 50 points. For England’s team, losing even one match from here can almost close all the doors for them to reach the final, while if Sri Lanka faces a clean sweep in this series, then they will also have to face a similar situation.
