Kingstown. The captain of the Bangladesh team, which made it to the Super 8 at the last moment in the ICC T20 World Cup, is not happy with his performance. Nazmul Hussain Shanto is happy that his team managed to make it to the Super Eight of the T20 World Cup but he is disappointed with the poor form of his batsmen. He also does not know why his batsmen are not able to perform well.
Bangladesh defeated Nepal by 21 runs to make it to the Super Eight but their team was all out for only 106 runs in this match which is a matter of concern. Shanto told reporters after the match, “We are happy that we are going to play in the Super Eight but our batsmen have not been able to perform as expected so far. However, I am really happy with the way our bowlers bowled in the last three-four matches.”
He said, “I hope our bowlers will maintain this form. As a batting unit, we have to prepare a proper strategy so that our batsmen can make a comeback in the next round.”
Shanto admitted that he does not know why his batsmen are not performing well. However, he refused to say that the slow pitch is the reason. Bangladesh team has been able to score more than 150 runs only once in this tournament, against the Netherlands.
Shanto said, “I am hoping that our bowlers will make us win every match but the batsmen will also have to understand their responsibility. Everyone is trying to find out why the batsmen are not able to perform well. We are not able to perform well and this is unacceptable.”
He said, “The wicket is not an issue. This is a wicket where you can score 140-150 runs. We are not able to do that and this is a matter of concern for us.” Bangladesh has been placed in Group A of the Super Eight along with India, Australia and Afghanistan. It will play its first match in the Super Eight against Australia on Thursday. Two days after this, it will face India and on June 24, it will face Afghanistan.
