Brandon King
In the T20 World Cup 2024, the joint host West Indies team has suffered a major setback just before the match against the USA in the form of star player Brandon King, who is now out of the entire tournament due to a muscle strain problem. The Event Technical Committee of the T20 World Cup 2024 has accepted the request of the Windies Cricket Board to bring a replacement player in place of King. King’s exit is considered no less than a major setback for the West Indies team in the middle of the tournament.
Meyers became part of the team instead of King
In place of Brandon King, Windies Cricket has made 31-year-old all-rounder Kyle Mayers a part of its team. Mayers has played 37 T20 International matches so far. While Mayers is known for his aggressive batting, he is also available as a bowling option when needed. During the Super 8 match against England, Brandon King suffered a muscle strain while batting, after which he retired hurt and returned to the pavilion. After this, he was sent for a scan and after the report came, the West Indies Cricket Board has decided to make Kyle Mayers a part of its team as a replacement player.
Sai Hope got a chance in the match against USA
After the exclusion of Brandon King, the West Indies team has included Shai Hope in their playing eleven in the Super 8 match against USA. King had scored a total of 86 runs in this tournament. The West Indies team, which has lost the match against England, will have to win both its remaining matches in the Super 8 to remain in the race to reach the semi-finals, in which one match is against USA and the team has to play its next match against South Africa on 24 June from 6 am Indian time.
