The historic Sri Ramana Kali Temple has been inaugurated in Dhaka by President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday. The temple, which was demolished by the Pakistani army in 1971, the first year of 50 years, was destroyed and the people inside the temple were also murdered. However, after 50 years this temple has been rebuilt once again. This temple is being considered as a symbol of cultural and spiritual connection between India and Bangladesh. In the joy of completing 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence, President Kovind had reached Bangladesh accepting the invitation of Bangladesh President M. Abdul Hameed. During this his wife Savita Kovind was also present.
Operation Searchlight was launched in 1971 by the Pakistan Army to suppress the Bengali independence movement. During this the temple was set on fire and the people living in it were murdered. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla had described an emotional moment for both the countries. India had also helped for the reconstruction of this temple. Speaking at the inauguration of the temple, Kovind said, “Today I have the privilege of inaugurating the historic Ramana Kali temple. I do this with the blessings of Maa Kali. I have been told that the Government of India and the people have helped in the reconstruction of this temple. The President of India said that this temple is a symbol of the cultural and spiritual bond between the people of India and Bangladesh. This is my Bangladeshi Signs an auspicious end to the journey.President Ram Nath Kovind had arrived in Dhaka on a three-day political stay to attend the commemoration of 50 years of Bangladesh’s independence. Here he also met with the President of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.
