Amit Rohidas
Indian hockey team defender Amit Rohidas had to sit out almost the entire match due to a red card in the match against Great Britain in Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian team made it to the semi-finals by winning this match 4-2 in the shootout with 10 players without Amit. At the same time, due to the red card, Amit was not a part of the team in the semi-final match against Germany in which the Indian team also had to face defeat. Now Amit has given a statement on this entire incident for the first time after returning to the country.
I didn’t do it intentionally
Amit Rohidas had to face a one-match ban as per the rules of the International Hockey Federation due to the red card, due to which he could not play in the semi-final match. Amit now told PTI in his statement on this entire incident that the whole country and my teammates were with me, they did not let me feel at all that I am out of the team. My full focus was also on the next match. I don’t know what people were saying outside but being a player I can say that I did not do this intentionally and the referee’s decision is also a part of this game.
I am happy and proud that we managed to win that match even with 10 players. We showed all the countrymen that while playing with 10 players, we did not give the opponent team any chance to take advantage of it. We also managed to beat Australia in the Olympics after 52 years.
Amit said this about Sreejesh
Regarding PR Sreejesh, who will no longer be a part of the Indian hockey team as a player, Amit Rohidas said that even though Sreejesh bhai will not be present with us on the field after retirement, he will always help us as a guide and mentor. I am confident that whoever takes his place, we will all work together with him and try to perform even better.
