On Monday, after talks with Katghora and Deepka Tehsildar, Bankimongra police station in-charge and railway administration officials asked to end the agitation, but the agitators clearly said that the agitation would end only after getting the compensation. Now a meeting will be held on February 22 in the SDM office.
The acquisition-affected villagers are sitting on an indefinite dharna led by Chhattisgarh Kisan Sabha, opposing the construction of Gevra-Pendra road rail corridor near Puraina river. They demand that compensation for the acquired land and trees will be provided only then the work will go ahead. As the agitation continued for the third consecutive day, the administration lost its sleep and the team reached to negotiate, but there was no effect on the Kisan Sabha leaders and the villagers. He demanded to settle the compensation case of all the affected farmers before construction. In view of the anger of the villagers, the officials along with the affected farmers inspected the fields and trees. Gevra-Pendra Road Rail Corridor is being constructed to ease coal transportation. Kisan Sabha leaders Jawaharsinh Kanwar, Prashant Jha and Deepak Sahu have alleged that many farmers have not received compensation for the acquired land and trees and the villagers are tired of visiting government offices. They say that if the rail corridor is built, then they will never be heard again. Shivratan Singh Kanwar, Mohpal Singh, Rai Singh, Saran Singh, Kawal Singh Kanwar, Samaan Singh Kanwar, Nirtu Singh, Bhuvanpal, Tikait Ram, Wednesday, Gangaram, Ram Gopal, Prabhudayal, Dadulal, Pathar Singh, Ram Singh, in the third day’s dharna. A large number of villagers took part under the leadership of Sehtar Singh.
