Kathmandu: The Nepal government has recalled its ambassadors from 11 countries, including those serving in India and the US, who were appointed under the Nepali Congress quota. This step has been taken at a time when three months ago Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ ended the alliance with the party (Nepali Congress) and joined hands with KP Sharma Oli. The government took this step on Thursday despite strong objections from Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha.

According to a report in the newspaper ‘The Kathmandu Post’, Nepal has recalled its ambassador to India, Shankar Sharma. The report quoted several officials of the Foreign Ministry as saying that such a move sends a very undiplomatic message. The report quoted a minister as saying that the Foreign Minister was reportedly opposing the proposal to recall ambassadors appointed from the quota of the Nepali Congress and other parties, but Prime Minister Dahal and CPN-UML President Oli decided to recall the ambassadors.
Three to four weeks time given
The foreign minister is believed to have requested both Dahal and Oli not to recall all the 11 ambassadors as some of them were doing a very good job but his request was not heeded. The minister said that these ambassadors have been asked to return in three to four weeks. (Language)
