New Delhi. Bangladesh’s ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has expressed suspicion of the role of the world’s biggest superpower America behind the ongoing violent riots in her country. In a message sent to her close ones, Sheikh Hasina has pointed to America’s role in her ouster from power. It has been said in this statement that a senior American diplomat has the biggest role in this entire conspiracy. According to a report in ‘Economic Times’, Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, has accused America of ousting her from power because of not handing over the island of St. Martin.
Sheikh Hasina said that America’s acquisition of St. Martin Island would have helped it to exert its influence over the Bay of Bengal. Sheikh Hasina also warned the people of Bangladesh not to be misled by the fundamentalists. In a message sent through her close aides, Hasina said, “I resigned so that I would not have to see a procession of dead bodies. They wanted to come to power over the dead bodies of students, but I did not let this happen, I resigned from the post of Prime Minister. I could have remained in power if I had given up the sovereignty of St. Martin Island and allowed America to have influence over the Bay of Bengal. I request the people of my country, ‘Please do not be misled by the fundamentalists.’
At the same time, Awami League leaders close to Sheikh Hasina blamed the US for the coup in Dhaka. They alleged that a senior US diplomat who visited Dhaka in May was responsible for this. One of the Awami League leaders alleged that US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas favoured the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. Peter Haas’ tenure ended in July.
