Dr. Phanindra Bhushan Diwan, Ayurveda Medical Officer of Janjgir Champa District Hospital, said that black pepper or marich has great importance in Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, black pepper is used in case of cold, cough, asthma or lack of digestion power, along with this, it accelerates the function of the liver, which leads to appetite and digestion also happens well after eating food. In case of sore throat or cough, only black pepper can be used or you can also mix black pepper, dry ginger and long pepper and use it.
Doctor Diwan further told that in Ayurveda, black pepper is used in many things and is mixed with it as a medicine. It is especially used for stomach diseases. Along with this, he also told that black pepper is used even after delivery which helps in strengthening the uterus. For this reason, black pepper is mainly added in the medicine made for postpartum women.
Excessive use of black pepper can be harmful
Dr. Diwan said that excessive use of black pepper increases bile and causes burning sensation in the stomach, therefore it should be used carefully and as per the quantity and after consulting a doctor. If you are using only black pepper then you should use half gram to one gram. And if you mix trikatu (black pepper, dry ginger, long pepper) then you can use 1 to 2 grams together.
