5G network and service is expanding rapidly in India. Most people have turned to 5G for the convenience of high speed internet. Jio and Airtel have extended their 5G service to most of the cities of the country. However, no 5G plan has been launched by both these companies yet. Companies are currently offering 5G data for free to their users. While the demand for 5G is increasing among the people, now a big update has come regarding its network.
A big news has come out regarding the data speed of 5G network in India. According to a report, as 5G is progressing, its network quality is declining. A latest report has revealed that as companies are rapidly developing 5G network, its downloading speed is also witnessing a huge decline.
Big drop in 5G download speed
Opensignal has released a report on 5G network in India. It was told that in the first quarter of 2023, the average download speed of 5G network in India used to be 304Mbps, but in the fourth quarter of the year the download speed has come down to 280.7Mbps.
According to the report, during the first quarter of this year, 5G download speed was quite low during peak hours. It is believed that during peak hours, 5G data is used heavily for many purposes like OTT streaming, gaming, online shopping. A major reason for the drop in download speed can be the excessive use of 5G network.
Airtel made improvements
According to Opensignal’s report, Airtel’s performance in 5G network has improved significantly except in a few states. Airtel’s average download speed in the first quarter of 2023 was 260.4Mbps which reportedly increased to 273.6Mbps in the first quarter of 2024.
Jio’s speed went down
According to the report, there has been a huge drop in Jio’s 5G download speed. In the first quarter of 2023, Jio’s download speed was 323.6Mbps but in the first quarter of 2024 it dropped to 261.8Mbps. The most affected states in this were Assam, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.
