Bangalore. Amid unrest following several incidents due to communal polarization in Karnataka, the ruling BJP is contemplating a cabinet change to put the party in an advantageous position in the 2023 Assembly elections. The matter of cabinet expansion has been discussed in detail with party leaders, Chief Minister Bommai said on Thursday after concluding his recent visit to New Delhi. Senior leaders have informed that they will talk about this in the state executive meeting on April 16 and 17 at Hospet in the newly formed Vijayanagar district.
The high command has taken all the information and has assured to take a decision after discussing the matter with local leaders, party workers and organizational secretaries.
He said, “I have met party president JP Nadda and discussed the matter. But, could not meet Home Minister Amit Shah. Cabinet expansion will also have to be discussed with him and National Organization Secretary Santosh ji.”
According to party sources, ministers including senior leaders have come under pressure and are more concerned to save their portfolios rather than the state’s situation. There are rumors that the party may replace several seniors and give more than 10 new faces a chance in the cabinet.
National General Secretary C.T. Ravi had given a statement that leaders of other parties in Karnataka would join the BJP. This has angered many powerful factions within the BJP party in the state.
The decision of the BJP high command to postpone the cabinet expansion has surprised BJP leaders in the state, who were hoping for a cabinet reshuffle after the Ugadi festival.
