Some people are fond of travelling, some are fond of eating and drinking. Some are passionate about travelling, some are fond of making friends. But he was addicted to getting married. Even after being 43 years old, he would introduce himself as single and divorced to some. He would advertise for marriage on matrimonial sites and contact a divorced or widowed woman. It was as if he was a magician when it came to his words. Once he would talk to a woman, she would fall in his trap and give him everything.

This case is from Palghar district of Maharashtra. Palghar police has arrested a 43-year-old man who married more than 20 women across the country. Police said that the accused would marry women and then pretend to be so helpless that he would dupe the women of their money and valuables and then run away.

Police said that the Mira-Bhayander, Vasai-Virar Police (MBVV police), which was investigating the complaint of a woman from Nalla Sopara, arrested the accused Firoz Niaz Shaikh from Kalyan in Thane district on July 23.

Senior Police Inspector Vijay Singh Bhagal said that according to the woman’s complaint, the accused Firoz Niaz Sheikh befriended her on a matrimonial website and married her. After marriage, a few days were fine, later Niaz Sheikh took cash, a laptop and other valuables from the woman. Rs 6.5 lakh was taken from the woman in October and November 2023. On knowing that she was cheated, the woman lodged a case against the accused with the police. The police took the accused into custody after investigation and recovered a laptop, mobile phone, debit and credit cards, checkbook and some jewelry from him.

During interrogation of Niaz Sheikh, the police came to know about many shocking things. Investigation has revealed that Sheikh targeted divorcees and widows on matrimonial sites, married them and swindled their valuables. Niaz Sheikh has cheated more than 20 women in various parts of the country including Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and Gujarat since 2015.
