Country total Foodgrain production is estimated to be 3,288.52 lakh tonnes in 2023-24, which is 211 lakh tonnes more than the average foodgrain production of 3,077.52 lakh tonnes in the last five years (2018-19 to 2022-23). However, the Agriculture Ministry said in the third advance estimate on Tuesday that there has been a slight decrease in production compared to 2022-23. The ministry has attributed the decline in grain production in 2023-24 to irregular monsoon which affected some crops. However, according to experts, the fact that the total production is more than the five-year average shows resilience in the country’s agriculture sector.
