New Delhi. There was a dust storm and light rain in some parts of the national capital Delhi late Friday evening. Due to bad weather, the destination of 9 flights landing at Delhi airport had to be changed. The wind speed of about 80 kilometers per hour caused destruction on a large scale. Dozens of trees were uprooted due to the storm and many houses were also damaged. More than 500 calls were made to Delhi Police and Fire Department. Due to the extreme weather, two people died, while many others were injured.
The weather conditions were such that many planes landing at Delhi airport had to be diverted to other places. An official said that some flights coming to Delhi were diverted to Jaipur. The severity of the dust storm can be understood from the fact that the Meteorological Department had advised people to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. IMD had issued an advisory saying, ‘Residents are requested to stay indoors, keep their windows and doors closed and avoid unnecessary travel.’ IMD had also advised people to stop at safe places and avoid standing under trees.
