New Delhi. Doctors of the surgery department of Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi have done wonders. In a complex operation, doctors removed a needle stuck in the hip of a 49-year-old woman for 3 years. The woman was identified as Rambha Devi. Three years ago, the needle got stuck in her hip while stitching.
The woman said- Three years ago, while sewing, she had kept the needle on the bed. She stood on the bed for some work and then suddenly slipped and fell on the bed. Rambha Devi felt a sharp pain and found the broken needle on the bed. She thought that the remaining half of the needle must have fallen somewhere in the room.
She searched for the remaining piece of the needle for several days, but could not find it. Forgetting the incident, she got busy with other work, however she continued to feel pain in her hip. When the pain became unbearable, she went to the doctor. The X-ray revealed that the lost ‘needle’ was embedded deep in the muscles of her hip, however due to the complexity of the case, several doctors refused to perform surgery on her.
At Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Rambha underwent imaging with X-rays and CT scans before her surgery. For the surgery, the hospital had to bring in an advanced imaging C-arm. Tarun Mittal, senior consultant, department of general surgery at the hospital, said, “It was very difficult to locate the needle. Several X-rays had to be taken during the operation to accurately locate the needle and finally, the team found the needle and removed it without breaking it. It was a very complicated operation.”
The doctor said, ‘That is why it is important to always seek medical help on time and never ignore anything.’ The doctor said, the woman is absolutely fine now.
