Prashant Kishor’s big announcement
Although assembly elections are to be held in Bihar next year i.e. in 2025, but before that political preparations are going on. One of these is Jan Suraj, the grassroots campaign of political strategist Prashant Kishore in Bihar, which is set to develop into a formal political party on October 2. After this it will become Jan Suraj Party. To lay its foundation, Jan Suraj has scheduled a series of eight state-level meetings. These meetings to be called in the next few weeks will gather more than 1.5 lakh officials associated with the campaign from across Bihar.
Three big faces associated with Jan Suraj
The primary agenda of these meetings will be to finalise the process of formation of the new party, which includes setting up its leadership structure, drafting its constitution and deciding the party’s priorities. For this, a meeting of district and block level officials was held in Patna today. Three more names have joined Jan Suraj in this meeting, which include Karpoori Thakur’s granddaughter Dr Jagriti, former Lok Sabha candidate from Buxar Anand Mishra and former RJD MLC Rambali Singh Chandravanshi.
Jan Suraj will become a political party on October 2
Launched with a vision to bring about change in Bihar, the Jan Suraj Abhiyan focuses on connecting with the people at the grassroots level on key issues such as education, healthcare and employment. The party’s launch date, October 2, holds symbolic significance as it is the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, who is synonymous with grassroots activism and political reform.
This time there will be an election battle in Bihar
With the formation of the party, Jan Suraj aims to contest the 2025 assembly elections at a time when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is facing a massive anti-incumbency wave and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav is unable to go beyond his tradition Muslim-Yadav vote bank. Earlier this month, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had issued a circular warning its workers against joining the Jan Suraj campaign.
A screenshot of the letter was shared by Jan Suraj on its X handle with the comment that “RJD, which claims to be the strongest political party in Bihar, is terrified by the mere announcement that Jan Suraj will become a political party”.
