Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief JP Nadda has constituted a five-member team to probe the alleged gang rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl in West Bengal’s Hanskhali.
The girl’s family has alleged that she was gang-raped on April 4 and was given a death certificate after a hasty cremation without a postmortem. He has named the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader’s son as the main accused.
JP Nadda has asked the team to submit a report at the earliest. This includes MP Rekha Verma and Uttar Pradesh minister Baby Rani Maurya. There was no immediate reaction from the TMC or the West Bengal government.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had dismissed the report of another BJP fact-finding committee on the violence in West Bengal’s Birbhum last month. He said the report which was submitted to Nadda would affect the Central Bureau of Investigation’s probe into the incident and derail it.
Nine people were killed in arson in Birbhum following the killing of a local TMC leader on March 21.
