In the last few years, the demand for electric vehicles in the Indian market has increased rapidly. The government is also constantly trying to promote the use of electric vehicles in the country, for which subsidy is also being given by the central and state governments. Although there are many big players in the electric vehicle space, but Tata Motors has been the best. On the other hand, Hyundai and MG Motor are also selling their electric vehicles.
If we look at the growth in the sales of electric vehicles, it has increased from 0.04% in the year 2018 to 0.50% in the year 2021. If we understand in general language, a total of 14,690 units of electric vehicles have been sold in the country last year, which was only 4,774 units in the year 2020. So let’s know about the best selling electric vehicles sold in the country last year-
1)- Tata Nexon EV:
Tata Motors’ famous electric SUV is the largest selling electric vehicle in the country. This car is being liked the most due to the low price, better driving range and safety top. The company has registered a full 72% growth in its sales, with a total of 9,111 units sold last year as against only 2,529 units in the year 2020.
In this electric SUV, the company has used a lithium-ion battery of 30.2kWh capacity and the electric motor given in it generates strong power of 125bhp and torque of 245Nm. The company has used Ziptron technology in this 5-seater car, and the company claims that this car gives a driving range of up to 312 km in a single charge. The battery of this car can be charged up to 80% in just 1 hour. Its price ranges from Rs 14.29 lakh to Rs 16.90 lakh.
2)- MG ZS EV:
The only electric car of the leading British automaker Morris Garages in the Indian market, the ZS EV is the second best-selling car. The company sold a total of 2,798 units of this SUV last year, which was only 1,142 units during the year 2020. The sales of this electric SUV have seen an increase of 59%, which is much better.
The company is preparing to launch its facelift model in the market, it was recently spotted during testing. In the current model, the company has given a battery pack of 44.5 kWh capacity, the electric motor of this car generates power of 139bhp and torque of 350Nm. MG Motor claims that this SUV is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 kmph in just 8.5 seconds and once fully charged, this SUV gives a driving range of up to 419 km. Its price ranges from Rs 21.49 lakh to Rs 25.18 lakh.
3)- Tata Tigor EV:
As we told you above, Tata Motors is growing rapidly in the electric vehicle space. The company’s electric sedan car Tata Tigor has become the third best-selling car in the country. In August last year, the company launched this car in the domestic market, and a total of 2,611 units have been sold. It is clear from the figures that it fell behind by a few units to reach the number two position.

Talking about its powertrain, Tata Motors has used Ziptron technology in this electric sedan car, this car is equipped with a liquid-cooled high energy density battery pack of 26kWh capacity. Its battery is IP67 rated and its motor generates 74bhp power and 170Nm torque. The company claims that this car gives a driving range of up to 306 km in a single charge. Its price ranges from Rs 11.99 lakh to Rs 13.14 lakh.
