Operation Sindoor, which began on May 7, 2025, has become a symbol of India’s military power, valor and self -sufficiency. In response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on 22 April 2025, India launched accurate attacks on nine terrorist bases of Jaish-e-Mohammed and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. This campaign not only broke Pakistan’s back, but also demonstrated the strength of India’s indigenous defense systems on the global stage. The whole world saw the excellence of its weapons and now India is also getting the benefit.
Indigenous weapons such as BrahMos supersonic cruise missile, sky air defense system, Pinaka rocket launcher and D4 anti-drain system played an important role in Operation Sindoor. On 10 May, the Indian Air Force fired 15 BrahMos missiles on Pakistan with Sukhoi-30 MKI aircraft. Exact attacks were carried out on 11 airports in Pakistan, including several important airports. The Akash and Akash Mantra protected the Indian aircraft by failing 300–400 Pakistani drone attacks and missiles.
Addressing the nation on 12 May 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Operation Sindoor showed that ‘Make in India’ is not just a slogan, but also India’s proven ability in the battlefield. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also admitted that this campaign has increased the global demand for indigenous weapons. From Indian drone startups to public sector giants, all are now moving rapidly towards export of defense products. Especially, BrahMos missiles fired by Pakistan from Bakhia in Operation Sindoor are the highest demand in foreign markets.
How much does India benefit from military conflict?
India’s defense exports will reach ₹ 23,622 crore in 2023-24, which is 12% more than the previous year. Speaking to the Financial Times, a senior government official reported that BrahMos missiles worth $ 37.5 million jointly developed by Russia and India have been exported to the Philippines. Now talks are going on with Vietnam, Indonesia, Brazil and African countries. In 2022, Armenia’s export of Akash Air Defense System of Rs 6,000 crore and the demand for Pinaka rockets confirms this. The government aims to bring defense exports to more than Rs 50,000 crore by 2029.
Make in India stunning
Operation Sindoor not only identified Indian weapons, but also highlighted the weaknesses of Chinese weapons of Pakistan, such as HQ-9 and LY-80. Thus, it has established India as a reliable option in the global defense market. Under the ‘self -reliant India’ and ‘Make in India’ initiatives, India is now moving from an importer to exporter, giving a new direction to national security and economic development.
