Bharti Airtel, one of India’s largest telecom carriers, has revised four of its postpaid plans. There has been a change in the validity of Amazon Prime membership of the plan from the company. The modifications are applicable on the Rs 499, Rs 999, Rs 1199 and Rs 1599 plans. These plans used to include Amazon Prime membership for a full year earlier, but now they have been reduced to 6 months. Other benefits of the scheme remain the same. Let’s take a look at the revision in Airtel’s plans and everything we know so far.
Amazon Prime membership validity cut in half on some Airtel plans
Rupee. 499 Rs. 999 Rs. 1,199, and Rs. 1,599 postpaid plans are available along with six months of Amazon Prime membership as a component of the Airtel Thanks Platinum incentive. With all four tiers, the telecom operator had earlier offered one year of free Amazon Prime membership.
This change is effective from 1st April (beginning of the new financial year). From April 1, 2022, those who have signed up for the scheme will be subject to the new revised offers. Customers who did recharge in the previous financial year will still be able to avail the benefit of a full year.
Airtel’s Rs 499 plan includes unlimited voice calls, a monthly data cap of 75GB with rollover up to 200GB, and 100 SMS/day. The Rs 999 plan offers unlimited calls, 100GB monthly data and 100 SMS/day with rollover up to 200GB.
1,199 and 1,599 plans offer 150GB and 250GB of monthly data respectively, with a rollover cap of up to 200GB. All plans now include 6 months of Amazon Prime membership, 1 year of Disney+ Hotstar Mobile subscription, Shaw Academy Lifetime access, Wink Premium and access to all Airtel services.
While Airtel hasn’t acknowledged the actual reason for halving the validity of Prime membership, one possible factor is Amazon Prime’s recent price hike. It will be interesting to see if other telecom operators choose to follow Airtel’s path and similarly cut the validity of subscription services.
