Assam Rifles soldiers
New Delhi: In view of the increasing terrorist incidents in the Jammu region in recent times, the Home Ministry has taken a big decision and decided to deploy Assam Rifles soldiers. Two battalions of Assam Rifles, which will have a total of two thousand soldiers, will be sent to Jammu. There is a possibility that soldiers deployed in the North East will be sent to Assam.
Expert in operations conducted in forests and mountains
Assam Rifles soldiers are considered experts in jungle warfare. They are being deployed in view of their proficiency in climbing mountains, searching in caves and handling difficult situations in operations conducted in forest areas. The Assam Rifles contingent deployed in Jammu will also have rifle women. Instructions have been received from the Home Ministry to move the headquarters of Assam Rifles.
Deployment of security forces increased in Jammu region
In view of the increasing terrorist incidents, the deployment of security forces is being increased in the Jammu region. In this sequence, a decision has been taken to deploy Assam Rifles soldiers as well. Earlier, the central government had ordered the deployment of two BSF battalions from Odisha in the terror-affected Jammu region. These two BSF battalions were deployed as a “second line” of defense behind its units already deployed on the front line along the international border in the Jammu region to prevent infiltration of terrorists from across the border and attacks by these elements in the interior areas.
Assam Rifles
The BSF guards more than 2,289 km of the international border in the western part of India along Jammu, Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat. The Jammu region has 485 km of this border, which is covered with dense forests and mountainous terrain. Nearly a dozen BSF battalions are deployed near the international border area in Jammu. Security in the Jammu region is being focused after terrorist attacks in Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Udhampur, Kathua and Doda districts this year.
