If you are also fond of watching cricket matches, then this news is for you. During cricket matches, the government has noticed something which has disturbed it. Therefore, now the Union Health Ministry has written a letter to the BCCI and has requested to ban it immediately. BCCI can soon take a big decision on this.
In fact, a study by ICMR and World Health Organization has revealed that 41.3% of all surrogate advertisements of smokeless tobacco (SLT) brands were shown during the 17 matches of the 2023 Cricket World Cup alone. Youth are attracted to tobacco and gutkha after seeing such advertisements. After seeing this, the Director General of Health Services wrote a letter to the BCCI. It says that players should be prevented from advertising tobacco and alcohol. Also, tobacco should not be advertised in stadiums at all. According to sources, the BCCI is already considering this and an order can also be issued on this soon.
Such advertisements should not be done even by famous personalities
BCCI has also been told not to use celebrities for advertisements in IPL and other events. These advertisements should not be allowed. It has been argued that surrogate advertisements are done by celebrities who have millions of followers. They consider them as role models. They like to live like them. Therefore, the use of tobacco may increase. If a ban is imposed, it will strengthen the image of BCCI.
About 13.5 lakh deaths every year
The government has presented some statistics. It said that India ranks second in the world in terms of deaths due to tobacco. Due to this, about 13.5 lakh deaths are occurring every year. 33% of all cancers in India are caused by tobacco. About 50% of cancers in men and 17% of cancers in women are caused by tobacco. If BCCI bans it, many lives can be saved.
