New Delhi. On Tuesday, a heated exchange was witnessed in the Lok Sabha between Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and BJP MP Anurag Thakur. During this, Rahul Gandhi reiterated his demand for conducting caste census, and Thakur, who stood up to answer this, said something to which the Congress leaders have strongly objected.

Amidst this uproar, some parts of the speech of former Union Minister Anurag Thakur in Parliament were removed from the proceedings of the House. He had used the word Pandit Nehru and the word lie, which was removed from the proceedings of the House. Apart from this, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had mentioned the name of the Finance Minister of West Bengal, which has also been removed from the proceedings of the House.

Actually, Rahul Gandhi had made several allegations against the government while participating in the debate during the budget session. Referring to ‘Abhimanyu’, he said that another name of Chakravyuh is ‘Padmavyuh’, which is in the shape of a lotus flower. Now, BJP MP from Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, Anurag Thakur responded to this statement of Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday. He hit back at the Leader of Opposition Rahul in the Lok Sabha and said that he should know that ‘LOP’ (Leader of Opposition) does not mean ‘Leader of Propaganda’. While participating in the discussion on the budget, he also said that Rahul Gandhi should not become a ‘real leader’ and should understand that to become a ‘real leader’ one has to speak the truth.

The former Union Minister, while targeting the Congress leader, said that those who are ‘accidental Hindus’, their knowledge of Mahabharata is also ‘accidental’. He said, ‘A leader made a sarcastic remark on ‘lotus’. I don’t know what the problem is. An attempt was made to show the lotus in a bad light. The public has brought us to power for the third consecutive time.’ Lotus is the election symbol of BJP.

Thakur alleged, ‘You (Rahul) are not insulting the lotus, you are insulting Lord Shiva, Buddha.’ He quipped, ‘Don’t become only a reel leader, to become a real leader you have to speak the truth.’

On the demand for caste census, the BJP leader alleged that for Congress, OBC means ‘Only for Brother in Law Commission’. He claimed that a former Prime Minister associated with Congress had opposed giving reservation to OBC. Continuing his sharp tone, he said, ‘Will this ‘prince’ of the party give us ‘gyan’? First understand what LOP means – Leader of Opposition, not Leader of Propaganda… I just want to say that stop spreading lies. There is a lot of talk about OBC and caste census, will the one who does not know his own caste get the census done?’

Opposition leaders strongly objected to Anurag Thakur’s statement. Rahul Gandhi said that Thakur has insulted him, so he should also be given a chance to speak. Rahul Gandhi insisted, ‘You can insult me as much as you want every day. But do not forget that we will get the bill passed here (in Parliament).’ (With agency input)
