Some accused arrested in land grabbing case.

face: In Surat, Gujarat, the Police Commissioner and Collector have taken strict action against those who illegally occupy people’s land. Let us tell you that in Gujarat, the Land Grabbing Act was passed in 2020 against land grabbers who illegally grab people’s land. There is a provision of at least 10 years of punishment if found guilty. Action was taken on the applications received by the Land Grabbing Committee in Surat district. In this, FIR has been filed against illegal occupants in 17 applications in Surat city and 9 applications in Surat rural.

Re-investigation ordered in 12 cases

The seriousness of this law was explained to those who had illegally occupied lands and properties. As a result, 23 land grabbers in Surat city and 20 in rural areas handed over the possession of land, flats, shops and houses to their real owners. At the same time, 163 applications were rejected because they did not fall under the purview of this law. Overall, 232 applications have been settled in the last 3 months and the committee has ordered reinvestigation in 12 cases.

23 accused were arrested

Let us tell you that under the guidance of Surat city police commissioner, investigations were conducted by assistant police commissioners and provincial officers against land grabbers in different police stations regarding land grabbing applications. Under the Land Grabbing Act, 3 cases were filed in Hajir police station, 2 in Athva, 2 in Adajan, 1 in Kapodara, 1 in Sarthana, 1 in Salabatpura, 1 in Dindoli, 1 in Umra, 1 in Khatodara, 1 in Pandesara, 1 in Sachin, 1 in Rander and 1 in Jahangirpura, that is, a total of 17 cases were filed and out of the 29 accused related to these, 23 accused were arrested.

8 FIRs were filed in Surat Rural

These cases include 5 cases of land, 5 of flat, 3 of shop, 2 of plot and 2 of house. Whereas, 8 FIRs have been filed in Surat Rural. Action is underway to hand over properties worth approximately Rs 25 crore in Surat city and Rs 7 crore in the district, i.e. total Rs 32 crore to the real owners as per the rules. Also, due to fear of law, during the investigation itself, a total of 72 illegal occupants, 29 in Surat city and 43 in rural areas, have handed over the land or property back to the real owners, whose property is worth around Rs 120 crore.

Disposal of 1200 applications from 2020 till now

In this way, action has been taken to return property worth Rs 152 crore to the real owners. In the last one year, FIRs have been filed in 30 cases in Surat city and 19 in rural areas, i.e. a total of 49 cases of land grabbing. It is worth noting that since the implementation of the Land Grabbing Act in 2020, 1200 applications have been settled so far and 395 applications are under investigation. Of these, 65 FIRs have been filed in Surat rural and 67 in Surat city, i.e. a total of 132 FIRs have been filed. (Input: Shailesh Champaneria)
