Women’s T20 World Cup Trophy

The Women’s T20 World Cup is to be held in Bangladesh this year. However, its venue is likely to change due to security concerns due to anti-government protests in Bangladesh. Let us tell you that the Women’s T20 World Cup is to be organized from October 03. India has pulled itself out of this event. In such a situation, a country has presented its claim to host the Women’s T20 World Cup this year. This country is none other than Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe has emerged as a major option. UAE is also being seen as an option. The ICC Board can take a decision on this on Tuesday, 20 August.

Zimbabwe has not got any ICC tournament for a long time

Zimbabwe has successfully hosted two ODI World Cup qualifiers (2018 and 2023) in the last few years. Following this, Zimbabwe has established itself as a potential venue for major cricket events. The last time Zimbabwe hosted a World Cup was in 2003 with South Africa and Kenya. Since that time, Zimbabwe has faced many challenges. This includes the rule of Robert Mugabe, high inflation, which kept them away from important cricket events.

Zimbabwe has made a comeback in the cricketing world in recent years and is now keen to host the Women’s T20 World Cup. However, Zimbabwe’s women’s cricket team has never participated in a World Cup, and they will not be in the competition this year either. Nevertheless, Zimbabwe has shown enthusiasm in presenting itself as the new host. Zimbabwe will co-host the Men’s Under-19 World Cup with Namibia in 2026 and the ODI World Cup with South Africa and Namibia in 2027. In the meantime, Zimbabwe Cricket and the local government are working on building new stadiums in Victoria Falls and Mutare.

Matches can be held at these venues

Currently, Zimbabwe is offering Harare Sports Club and Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo as potential venues for the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup. These grounds recently hosted matches of the 2023 World Cup Qualifiers. Zimbabwe’s weather in October is also considered favorable for the event, as summer begins in the country then and there is less chance of rain. India and Sri Lanka have decided to opt out of hosting due to weather. Zimbabwe is hoping that the cost of the tournament hosted by them will be less than the UAE and this could benefit them in the final decision. As per Zimbabwe’s capacity, their 10,000 capacity venues are likely to draw good crowds, which could be a significant advantage.
