A new study has revealed that avocado can be very effective in preventing diabetes, but this fruit can also be effective in protecting women from diabetes. Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics A cross-sectional study published in Study A link between avocado and diabetes has emerged. In this study, a sample of more than 28,000 adults of different ages was examined. Researchers found that women who consumed avocado had a lower risk of diabetes compared to women who did not consume avocado. The women in the study who ate 30 to 38 grams of avocado per day had a significantly lower risk of diabetes, even after taking into account various risk factors such as age, body weight, physical activity and others.
Although the study showed that women who ate avocados had a lower risk of diabetes, no significant association was seen in men. According to health experts, avocado contains good unsaturated fat, fiber, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Because of which eating avocado can reduce the risk of diabetes. Eating fiber rich foods helps in blood sugar management. Fiber slows down digestion, preventing a rapid increase in blood glucose after eating. Like fiber, unsaturated fat also slows down digestion, which is beneficial.
The combination of unsaturated fat and fiber can prove helpful in reducing the risk of diabetes and improving heart health. According to experts, diabetes and heart disease are related because the risk factors of both are similar. The unsaturated fats and fiber found in avocado can help maintain better levels of LDL or good cholesterol, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease. Avocado can also be considered effective in improving metabolism.
