When the T20 World Champion Team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma went to Sri Lanka to play the ODI series, no one would have thought that the visiting team would have to face such a defeat. After the first match was tied, Sri Lanka showed a strong game with the ball and bat and succeeded in defeating India after 27 years. Under the captaincy of Charith Aslanka, Sri Lanka defeated India 2-0 in the 3 match ODI series. The third ODI was a do or die match for India but the host team did not give the visiting team any space to play freely. The result of which was that India had to face defeat in the ODI series at the hands of Sri Lanka after 1997.
This victory against India is special in itself for the Sri Lankan team which has been struggling in international cricket for the last few years. This is the reason why the Sri Lankan captain is very happy with this victory. After creating history against India, Sri Lankan captain Charith Aslanka said about the team, “I am very happy as a captain. Our team played brilliantly in this entire series. We knew that India has a great batting lineup and we wanted to play with our full strength. Spin was our strength and we went with it. Our team is in a good mood right now, especially our coach Jayasuriya. The players are enjoying the team atmosphere to the fullest.”
Status of 3rd ODI
Talking about the third match of the series, host Sri Lanka batted first and scored 248 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs in which Avishka Fernando scored 96 runs while Kusal Mendis played a brilliant innings of 59 runs. In response, the entire Indian team collapsed for 138 runs in 26.1 overs. Captain Rohit Sharma scored the highest 35 runs for India. Washington Sundar contributed 30 runs. Zenith Vellalaage created new history by taking 5 wickets for Sri Lanka.
