Kohima: Preparations for the Lok Sabha elections are in full swing across the country. All the political parties are busy in their respective election campaigns. But amid all this, a political party has refused to participate in the elections. Actually, the leaders of Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) have given this information on Friday. He said that his organization stands by its decision of not taking part in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the country until the Central Government fulfills its demand of creating a separate state from Nagaland. Let us inform that ENPO had held a closed-door meeting in Tuensang on Thursday with 20 MLAs of the area and the only Rajya Sabha member from Nagaland.

ENPO vice-president W Bendang Chang said, “We have decided to stay away from the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and not allow any campaign within our jurisdiction until the demand for the frontier Nagaland region is met by the Centre.” Legislators Union (ENLU) official C L John confirmed that all 20 MLAs and the Rajya Sabha member from the area attended Thursday’s meeting which continued till 7 pm.

“During the meeting, we appealed to ENPO and the tribal bodies to cancel their decision, but that did not happen,” CL John said. He concluded that the final decision will be taken only after consultation with the people.” Asked whether ENLU had received any assurance from the Center on its demand for the frontier Nagaland region during his recent visit to Delhi, he said so. No assurance has been received, but ”we have asked the state government to present its views.” John said ENLU will meet Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on the matter as soon as possible.
