Sybrand Engelbrecht was born in 1988 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He made his international debut for the Netherlands in 2023 at the age of 35. He played for South Africa in the 2008 Men’s Under-19 World Cup where he took a brilliant catch of young Virat Kohli in the style of Jonty Rhodes. After that tournament, Sybrand Engelbrecht played for Cape Cobras from 2008/09 to 2015/16 and Western Province (from 2009/10 to 2016/17) in all three formats in the South African domestic circuit and performed well, but he did not get many opportunities.
