ICC bans Devon Thomas: Amidst the preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024, the International Cricket Council has taken a big action. ICC has banned a West Indies wicketkeeper for 5 years on 7 major charges including match fixing. The player has admitted to seven counts of violating the anti-corruption codes of Sri Lanka Cricket, Emirates Cricket Board and the Caribbean Premier League. These violations relate to attempting to fix the outcome of games and obstructing investigations through concealing, tampering or destroying evidence.

ICC has banned 34-year-old Caribbean cricketer Devon Thomas from all formats of cricket for 5 years. Let us tell you that ICC had suspended Devon Thomas on 7 charges in May last year and now has given this decision on him. The ban on Thomas will come into effect from May 23 last year when he was temporarily suspended.

Issuing a statement, Alex Hales, General Manager of ICC’s Integrity Unit, said that Devon Thomas, who has played international, domestic cricket and franchise cricket professionally, had participated in several anti-corruption sessions. He knew what his responsibilities were under the anti-corruption codes but he failed to fulfill his obligations. This ban is justified and should send a strong message to players and corrupt people that attempts to corrupt our game will be dealt with strictly.

Devon Thomas has played in all three formats for West Indies. Devon Thomas played his only Test for West Indies in Australia in December 2022. Apart from this, he was a part of 21 ODI and 12 T20I matches. Devon Thomas scored 31 runs in Test, 238 runs in ODI and 51 runs in T20I. During this period he also took 4 wickets. Devon Thomas played his last international match in the year 2022.
