The country’s leading automaker Mahindra & Mahindra has always been known for its powerful and robust Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs). The company recently introduced the next generation model of its famous offroading SUV Mahindra Thar in the market. The company has made many major changes in this SUV from exterior to interior, due to which its price has also become a bit high. But despite this, there has been no decrease in the madness of the people towards Mahindra Thar.
The company launched the next generation model of this SUV in the domestic market on 2 October 2020, since then people are showing great interest in this SUV. The waiting period of this SUV has also increased significantly due to high demand from customers and shortage of semi-conductors. According to the latest report, the new model has registered a great growth compared to the previous model of Mahindra Thar, and in the last year 2021, its sales have increased by 560%.
Mahindra sold only 4,865 units of this SUV in the year 2020, during which the old model was available for sale in the market. At the same time, in the year 2021, the company has sold a total of 32,139 units. Which is a tremendous figure as an off-roading SUV, and day by day the trend of people towards it seems to be increasing.
How is the new Mahindra Thar:
Talking about the new Mahindra Thar, the company has launched it in the market with both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol variant has a 2.0-litre engine that generates 150PS of power and a 2.2-litre diesel engine produces 130PS of power. This SUV has been successful in scoring 4 stars during the Global NCAP crash test, so it is also very good in terms of safety.
The Mahindra Thar cabin gets roof mounted speakers, 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, multi-information display in the center of the instrument cluster, halogen headlamps with LED DRLs, electrically operated AC, steering-mounted controls and washable interiors on the second-gen model and more. Removable roof panels are also available. Apart from this, standard safety features include dual front airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), rear parking sensors and front seatbelt reminder.
Mahindra Thar has been given a ground clearance of 219mm to 226mm, and its water wading capacity is up to 625mm. That is, it can be easily driven even on bad, pothole or water-filled roads. This SUV is very popular among the youth due to its special offroading character features. Its current model is priced between Rs 12.78 lakh to Rs 15.08 lakh.
